Invisalign® is a teeth straightening system utilizing clear, medical grade, BPA free plastic trays, to adjust the position of teeth over time. The aligner trays are custom made to fit the shape of the patient’s teeth using an invisible, smooth plastic that allows for comfort and discretion. This system can correct issues of misaligned, crooked and overcrowded teeth.
Invisalign® trays rely on a custom design to move teeth into their correct positions. Treatment begins with a series of dental impressions to reflect the pre-treatment positions of teeth. These impressions are sent to a lab where special design and modeling software will create a series of three-dimensional virtual models that show how teeth need to move to come into proper alignment. The custom trays will be created based on these models for a one-of-a-kind custom solution based on the mouth shape and orthodontic needs of each patient. Each tray is worn for about two weeks before being traded for the next tray in the series to keep teeth moving in the right direction. Most patients use from 12 to 30 aligners, and treatment can usually be completed in under two years – sometimes in much less time.
Invisalign® is designed to straighten and properly align teeth just like metal braces. But instead of relying on metal bands or ceramic plates and wires that are attached to the tooth surfaces, the Invisalign® system uses a series of clear removable trays, similar to the trays used in teeth whitening procedures. Helping coax teeth into their proper positions over time.
Invisalign® effectively treats a wide variety of dental problems in a comfortable and convenient option. Unlike other methods, Invisalign® will not cause irritation to the soft tissues of the mouth. These aligners can also be removed when brushing, flossing or eating. This eliminates the need for dietary restrictions because of metal brackets found in traditional braces. Although, the aligners should be worn for 22-23 hours each day for optimal results. Along with improving a patient’s smile, having properly aligned teeth makes daily brushing and flossing easier, improving overall dental health by reducing the risk of tooth decay and gum disease.
